NeuronUP is a digital web platform designed to act as a key support for occupational therapists and professionals involved in cognitive rehabilitation and stimulation processes. It consists of numerous materials and resources for designing treatment sessions in addition to a patient manager for organizing and saving the results of those sessions.
It is hosted in a cloud computing system, in other words, a website that practitioners can access anytime, anywhere to review their patients’ results, plan treatment sessions, check exercises, etc. Similarly, the constant flow of new material and platform updates are available in real time.
An important benefit of NeuronUP is that professionals are able to personalize sessions (customizing materials to suit each patient’s needs), which can then be done from wherever a patient may be. Likewise, professionals can subsequently access the system to monitor their patients’ performance, and thereby adapt follow up exercises based on performance and needs at any time from any place.

The platform consists of two main sections:
NeuronUP brings together a wealth of varied materials so that professionals can design personalized interventions, maximizing their adaptation in accordance with each patient’s specific needs.
As such, there are thousands of exercises, tools and real life simulators that allow for the exercise of basic cognitive functions as well as activities of daily living and social skills. It also includes extra content (images and sounds bank, videos and diverse applications) that help professionals design their own activities in a different and more motivating manner.
The classification of activities focuses on the different areas of intervention mentioned above, various degrees of impairment, the ability to work individually or in groups, socio-cultural and educational level, age, and possible sensory limitations.
It also takes into account the mode of task presentation offering two work formats: pencil and paper material; and digital material, which is done on the computer and allows for the use of touch screens.
It should be emphasized that the materials’ appearance is aesthetically pleasing and neatly displayed besides allowing for the personalization of content (images and texts that are significant to the patient) which has an important motivational effect when it comes to adhering to treatment.
All of which results in an intensive and personalized intervention adaptable to the circumstances and needs of each case.
NeuronUP automatically records the comprehensive quantitative results of all activities performed on the computer and can also save the results of activities done on paper. Additionally, it easily incorporates the professional’s qualitative observations so as to have complete information in one location.
All of this allows for the control and organization of every patient’s activities; making it possible to easily check results, and to quickly and effectively verify how patients are progressing in different areas.
NeuronUP is based on a consistent theoretical framework overseen by a committee of scientific experts.
Part of the premise of NEUROPLASTICITY which is the brain’s potential to modify and adapt itself in response to experiences, chemical substances, hormones, and/or injuries. The ability of the brain to reorganize itself by creating and strengthening neural connections is the key to recovery. Although the system itself is capable of activating the neuroplastic systems, they have limitations. Thus, it is recommended to stimulate and modulate them, which is achieved through appropriate therapeutic intervention.
In this field two types of interventions must be discussed:
When creating materials, ECOLOGICAL VALIDITY, which refers to the correlation between the improvement of the skills trained in consultation and its relation to improved performance in everyday activities, and GENERALIZATION, which refers to the results produced by certain training tasks becoming evident in other similar tasks, are two concepts taken into account.
Each therapeutic intervention should be unique as it depends on factors as diverse as the type of impairment, a patient’s personal characteristics and circumstances, or the particularities of the occupational therapist who is carrying out the intervention. Thus, the latter will be the one who decides which activities should be done by each patient, what the duration of each activity will be and in what order of difficulty the tasks should advance. To accomplish this, NeuronUP provides tasks thoroughly classified by processes, divided into levels according to their complexity, and that are capable of being customized, allowing the practitioner to design a more precise and effective rehabilitation/stimulation program.
