"TER", "BUT", "FLY" Would you be able to make a word with these three syllables? Well, this is the activity that your child patients will be able to do in the game, Word Fishing.
This activity consists of making words by putting syllables or individual letters in the correct order. In order to achieve this, the player will have to fish out the appropriate ducks from the pond, which contain the letters or syllables of these words.
Word Fishing is a game for improving vocabulary because the kids have to know the words that appear in the game to be able to create the right word with the different syllables or letters given.
The secondary functions that this activity works are:
Hemineglect: the syllables or letters are on ducks moving in the fair pond, so the patients must be able to track the different ducks moving about the screen to form the word.
Working memory: after locating and processing all the syllables or letters, the children must analyze in their heads all the possible combinations, until they find the correct word.
NeuronUP offers occupational therapists the possibility to customize the game for each patient according to their abilities. The aspects of the game the professional can personalize are:
The occupational therapist can also customize: the number of exercises to finish (total worked, passed, acceptable or failed), time limit, inclusion of an inactivity warning and whether to show an activity timer.
Word Fishing has an adult version on the platform called Making Words. In this case, the adults have to match words by putting together fragments, syllables or individual letters in the correct order.
